Primary Hub is the department for young people with Speech, Language and Communication needs (SLCN).
Primary Hub caters for young people across Key Stages 2 and 3, split into 3 classes. Pupils are taught in groups of a maximum of eight, supported by a Teacher and a Learning Facilitator (LF). Although accommodating older pupils, it is very much based on a primary model and pupils stay within their classes with their Tutor and LF whilst accessing the National Curriculum. Within the learning base, it is specifically designed to support SLCN/ASD pupils, with work stations for each learner, as well as visual supports and timetables.
As well as plenty of outdoor learning space, Primary pupils also have regular access to Horseworld sessions, swimming lessons and cycling sessions, as well as life skills at the Create Centre and regular trips to Leigh Woods. When inside the classroom, there is a high emphasis on developing speech, language and communication skills, as well as social development. Based on their individual assessment of needs, pupils also receive specific Maths and English intervention, 1:1 speech and language sessions, 1:1 and small group mentoring sessions, and access to Nurture sessions to work on specific social skills. There is also a designated soft surface time out room as well as access to a sensory room.
